Response to Durham Stay-at-Home Order
Section 8 Participants, Landlords, Residents, and Partners:
With Mayor Schewel's stay-at-home order and the continuing spread of the COVID-19 virus throughout the Durham community, DHA employees and residents are conducting social distancing at all properties, with particular attention focused towards our senior properties. We are continuing to provide maintenance services while socially distancing and have increased sanitization in common spaces. Under Mayor Schewel's order, DHA has been deemed "essential" and will continue operating to keep families safe, in compliance with the NC Division of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control guidelines. We have reduced in-person interactions to the bare minimum by having as many employees work from home as possible while still being able to maintain operations. Designated staff will continue responding to resident phone and email messages concerning changes in income and maintenance needs.
The stay-at-home order specifically exempts all work being conducted at McDougald Terrace, and this work continues each day so we can maintain families return home as safely and quickly as possible. As of today, 118 families have returned home, 24 have transferred to other DHA properties and 2 have left for other housing providers. An additional 42 families will return home by this Friday morning, leaving 139 homes left to complete. The work at McDougald Terrace has not been affected by the COVID-19 virus and with the mayor's exemption of the work in his stay-at-home order, we can stay on pace to return all families home in early April.
On behalf of the McDougald Terrace Resident Council Leadership, there is still a need for residents who remain in hotels and need additional donations in the remaining time that they are relocated, items which include:
- Bottled Water
- Paper towels
- Tissues
- Cleaning supplies
- Non-perishable food
- Paper plates and plastic utensils
- Tupperware products to store food
- School Supplies, but preferably activities to occupy children while out of school
If you are able to donate any of these items, please deliver them to 51B Ridgeway Avenue. DHA is continuing to take precautionary measures to slow and stop the spread of coronavirus, and will adjust operations further as needed. Please stay safe and take the necessary precautions during the spread of the Coronavirus.
