Resident Council's Mission

The purpose of the Resident Counsel is to improve the quality of life, resident satisfaction, and participation in self-help initiatives enabling residents to create a positive living environment for families living in respective communities.

Specifically, the purpose of the Resident Council shall be to:

• Maintain a viable resident organization representing the residents who elected its officers.
• Act as a liaison between the Durham Housing Authority (DHA) and members to assure adequate maintenance of all units and common areas.
• Establish and maintain security and public safety programs.
• Promote programs which will provide improved educational, recreational, social service and
  employment opportunities.
• Inform residents of their rights and responsibilities under existing federal, state, and local law; as well as under the Resident Council bylaws.
• Receive official recognition from DHA and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as a Resident Council pursuant to the latest HUD regulations.'
• Advise DHA in all aspects of operations.
• Cooperate with other Resident Councils in representing the interests of all residents living in Durham.
