Striving to Increase Self-Sufficiency
Durham Housing Authority, established in 1949, provides decent, affordable housing for eligible low-income families, people with disabilities, and the elderly through 1,201 Public Housing units and manages 3,078 Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV) for area landlords. Housing Choice Vouchers, previously Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers, funded by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). DHA is governed by seven Board of Commissioners.
Waiting lists for rentals or vouchers may close to new applicants based on the size of and length of the waiting lists. If you need housing assistance, please contact DHA for more information about eligibility requirements, availability of rentals or vouchers, waiting list status, and application procedures.
