John Avery Boys And Girls Club
The John Avery Boys And Girls Club is an organization that provides a variety of youth programs as well as cultural activites. Scholarships are awarded twice a year, fall and spring. The Scholarship funds are obtained from the public and private sector through fundraising. The scholarship amount is determined by the READS advisory committee.
Personal Responsibility To Overcome Through Understanding And Determination
Personal Responsibility To Overcome Through Understanding And Determination (PROUD) positively affect change in youth by providing them with opportunities to learn appropriate behaviors. Topics are decision-making, anger management, violence management, drug awareness, communication skills and health education. Students attend one Teen Court session and complete a community services assignment.
Streetlights To Starlights Camping Program
The Streetlights To Starlights Camping Program is designed to take young children living in public housing out of the city to expose them to the outdoors. The intent is to expand the relationship between the police officers and the youth by changing the environment and condition upon which they interact.
