The Mission of The Durham Housing Authority is to be a leader for affordable housing in Durham County by serving as a housing safety net, promoting individual self-sufficiency, leveraging core housing competency to support DHA's mission, managing real estate and facilitating and participating in mixed income housing development.

The Vision of the Durham Housing Authority for the year 2021 is that Durham becomes a model community for affordable housing with a diverse housing portfolio for moderate and low income families, a quality housing safety net for temporary, transitional and special populations and new developments with affordable housing choices. By 2021, we envision the Durham Housing Authority as a premier public real estate holding company and the affordable housing provider of choice.

Blueprint for Success

Durham Housing Authority is implementing a balanced scorecard to align its Mission and Vision with the daily activities performed to meet customer requirements, to manage and evaluate business strategy, to monitor efficiency improvements, to build organizational capacity and to communicate progress made to all employees, partners and stakeholders. The balanced scorecard, named the Blueprint for Success, is a strategic planning and performance management system consisting of strategic nonfinancial measures and traditional financial measures for a more "balanced" view of an organization's performance.

DHA is currently utilizing the services of ActiveStrategy, Inc., recently acquired by The Advisory Board Company, for the provision of a performance/management software solution to automate the Blueprint for Success. This software, ActiveStrategy Enterprise (ASE), is being incorporated into DHA's normal operations for data collection, performance reporting/analysis and knowledge sharing.
