Preparation For The Future

Ruffin/Edwards Academic Development Scholarship Program

The Ruffin/Edwards Academic Development Scholarship Program (READS), established in 1987, awards scholarships to deserving public housing youth. Scholarships are awarded twice a year, fall and spring. The Scholarship funds are obtained from the public and private sector through fundraising. The scholarship amount is determined by the READS advisory committee. Please see the link at the bottom of this page to visit the READS online store, where you can make a purchase and suppose this important program, providing a lifeline to students in need. If you would like to make a direct cash contribution or become a corporate sponsor, please contact Jo-Ann Davis, Director-Resident Services, at 683-8596 ext. 426.

Tutoring-at-a-Distance/Campers Of Learners Partners Program

The Tutoring-at-a-Distance/Campers Of Learners Partners Program is designed to provide computer training as well as provide computers to residents in the housing authority communities. Residents attend computer training prior to receiving a computer for their home. Resident leaders in the community are the designated trainers. Residents can participate in "tutoring at-a-distance" through the monitor, while interacting with North Carolina Central University students in the labs on campus.

Scholastic Aptitude Test Workshop Program

The Scholastic Aptitude Test Workshop Program is designed to enhance the test-taking skills of high school students who plan to take the SAT. SAT preparation training is conducted twice a year, once in the fall and in the spring. Twelve hours of instructional time is provided by a trained instructor.
